Continuing with my story, I am now five years old and going to the Pusa Road Branch of the MEA School at Delhi. We had just returned from Trivandrum after the birth my youngest brother Hari. Enroute we went to Bombay(now renamed as Mumbai) to attend marriage of my eldest maternal uncle. My maternal grand father, grand mother, mother, sister, brother Raju, baby brother Hari all jointly started from Trivandrum for Bombay. My father who was at Delhi then joined us directly in Bombay for the marriage. We started from Trivandrum and came to Madras(presently Chennai) by train travelling third class. My mother with the infant was in discomfort in the train. At Madras we changed to another train for Bombay. My grand father with great effort and persuassion with the railway authorities upgraded our tickets to second class. Second class coach also was not very comfortable. I remember that the only difference was that the bench was along the length. We reached Bombay and stayed in the newly acquired two roomed flat of my uncle. My paternal uncle(Father's elder Brother) and paternal Aunt(Father's youngest sister) were also living in Bombay. During the marraige eve, We visited their places and went for sight seeing around Bombay. It was a good time, and I recollect most of the places I visited including a milk bottling plant. I also recollect the many gifts we recieved including a light pink coloured purse for my mother and a rubber ball in pale bottle green colur bought in the Sion Circle market. My uncle had married a girl from his office(arranged marriage only) second daughter among four girls and three boys. They had a house newly built close to a hill at a place named Chembur. There was a neat garden around the house. The two younger sisters were cute and bubbly in skirts then. I always remember them whenever I see the TV ad for chick chick chick Chicklets and Cadbury Dairy Milk Chockolate. My paternal uncle was also living in the same area, but his house was a single room flat on the second or probably third floor of a chawl(something like a Hostel) overlooking a pond in the viscinity. The view from his flat gave a very strange negative feeling. However, the presence of my two plump cousin sisters and a baby brother made lot of difference. My paternal Aunt also lived in a similar flat in a place called Matunga, which again was giving a strange and intmidating feeling, drying-up all hopes of a good life. However, again the presence of my cousin brother and two or probably three younger sisters made-up a lot to boost the mood. Looking back, I feel there appeared prosperity only at the presence of plenty of young children clinging on to the not very financially sound parents. After the marriage me, parents, sister, and brothers came to Delhi. Soon father got a newly built service quarters allotted in Andrews Ganj. We moved in 1961 after my school session. Me and sister were put in a new branch of the MEA school at Lakshmi Bai Nagar. We generally took a bus to school. Occasionally we used to walk down in the evening in groups of for or five children.
Our School building was under construction and camp tents were put out in the play ground to serve as class rooms. It was a great experience with challenges during rainy days. Most subjects were dull handled by equally disinterested teachers except the Math subject needing attention on Alzebra. After about five years in tents, the building got ready(in crude form without the outdoor plaster and staircase railings). We were happy to move in and thrilled to find the play ground restored for its real purpose. We had our serious tournaments for the first time then. Recollect the 400 M Sprinter Jagannathan who later went to USA in the company of Hippies. And there were very good cricketers with impressive strike. Remember one TVS in short for T V Subramanian who later became an IPS officer and served in Delhi in 1970ies.
